RoyoBlocks

2012-13 | STANFORD UNIVERSITY

RoyoBlocks are a literacy toy for early readers and were created in collaboration with Jon Kleiman as our final project for Paulo Blikstein's course, "Beyond Bits and Atoms" at the Stanford Graduate School of Education.

RoyoBlocks offer young children an opportunity to develop foundational reading skills. Designed with pre-literate children in mind, RoyoBlocks enable children to construct their own sentences, test their comprehension skills, and, broadly, interact with words in a meaningful way. The RoyoBlocks kit consists of 60 unique blocks, each engraved with a high frequency sight word, a plush monkey reading companion, and materials to guide a child through various learning activities.

In June 2013, we demoed RoyoBlocks at the Interaction Design and Children conference in New York City.  The corresponding publication is: "RoyoBlocks: An Exploration in Tangible Literacy"
